We have started to dissect the nature of the Wnt signaling pathways and the molecular effectors acting during vascular morphogenesis. Our pioneer studies have identified that Frizzled receptors are involved in the control of the endothelial cell-cell junctions. This project will have important implication for fundamental understanding mechanisms that regulate the formation of new blood vessels. The second important part of our research concerned the identification of the role of the non canonical Wnt/planar cell polarity pathway in vascular formation and organization and the identification of novel intracellular triggers.
